Although it’s far from rad, the concept’s front end does represent a distinct break with the Legacy’s familiar—too familiar?—face. It’s a little more aggressive, and the stacked LED headlamps lend a much more contemporary look to the design. Subaru’s press materials also extol the concept’s “rugged sportiness” and “powerful presence,” which may be a little oversell, but the pronounced fender flares suggest that there’s some muscle to go with the new sheetmetal.

And there’s some substance behind the showbiz. In addition to the Legacy’s naturally aspirated and turbocharged flat-fours, the current six-cylinder option is a 3.0-liter flat-six rated for 245 hp and a tepid 215 lb-ft of torque.

The concept sports a 3.6-liter flat-six, borrowed from the Tribeca crossover. No output numbers reported for the 3.6 as installed in the concept, but in the Tribeca it’s rated for 256 hp and 247 lb-ft.
