The 2007 Buick Riviera Concept car was an engineering design by General Motors and a company from China, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). The car was meant to bring in new hybrid technologies for the promotion and development of alternative propulsion technologies in China.

According to Ed Welburn, vice president, GM Global Design, "Developing and launching the Riviera in China underscores the diversity, strength and depth of the GM global design network. It also reflects PATAC`s growing role within the GM Design family and China`s significance as the world`s largest Buick market."

The name Riviera was a popular Buick brand several years previous. It represented Buick's intention to put a car in front of the public which had universal beauty and wasn't dependent on borders. The design for the 2007 Buick Riviera illustrated the influence of the Chinese on American originated cars that would be marketed in China.
