The 2004 Acura TL A-Spec Concept gave the public an idea of future upgrades to the TL. It was powered with a 3.2-L V6 which gave a high flow intake and exhaust system plus a few internal engine modifications to the standard engine resulting in more than 300-hp. The extra power helped drive the front wheels through an optional TL 6-speed manual gearbox. The fenders were flared on the concept to allow for the tires that were an extra two inches wider than the regular TL tires. On 21 inch rims, the wheels provided for extra road control and smoother ride.

The car was provided with a camera that recorded the area behind the rear of the car when backing up. The driver could see the view on the center stack navigation screen. Also included on this concept car were pedals using lightweight aluminum matching the aluminum that was used on trim throughout the car.

Although this concept car did not have the radical lines or extreme impact of some new prototypes, Acura hoped that many of the innovative features would be gradually used on future TL models. The A-Spec Concept featured not only those robust fender bulges, but also a long hood, a sleek cabin, with side markers and door handles located such that the car took on an "ultimate athlete" character.
